Prevalence of CCHF Virus in Ticks and People and Public Awareness in Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan

Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) virus is a tick-borne pathogen that causes severe disease in people, with a distribution that extends from central Asia to southern Africa. In addition to tick bites, contact with bodily fluids from viremic livestock or from symptomatic humans are risk factors for infection. From 2000 to 2013, 73 cases of CCHF were reported in Zhambyl Region, Kazakhstan. CCHF virus is categorized as an “especially dangerous pathogen” in Kazakhstan and CCHF is prioritized for surveillance and treatment.

Rickettsia and Borrelia Prevalence Study among Ticks in Georgia

Rickettsiae are an important arthropod-borne pathogens widely distributed throughout the world that infects humans causing various types of clinical diseases. The clinical features of rickettsial diseases can often overlap with other tick-borne diseases, particularly with borrelioses. These organisms can share the same transmitting vector; co-infection in a single vector is possible, leading to further complication of the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. Preliminary study showed a relatively high infection rate for spotted fever group Rickettsiae among ticks in Georgia.

This syndrome definition was created to explore Lyme disease through Syndromic data as an efficient approach to monitor the disease. 

This was created in NSSP ESSENCE, using the Chief Complaint Query Validation (CCQV) data to ensure a broad application across different states and jurisdictions.

Other fields are being explored, but this work was accomplished in the CCDD field. It relies on direct mentions of Lyme, Bullseye Rashes and Lyme ICD-10.
