This definition includes ED visits with diagnoses for viral carditis (B33.2), viral carditis unspecified (B22.20), viral myocarditis (B33.22), viral cardiomyopathy (B33.24), acute myocarditis (I40), and myocarditis, unspecified (I51.4). The definition excludes ED visits with diagnoses for viral endocarditis (B33.21) and viral pericarditis (B33.23) unless another inclusion code is present.
